Since it’s so close to New Year’s Eve (like, tomorrow!), we’ve been scrolling through Pinterest all week looking for holiday hair and makeup looks for the big night. Then suddenly it hit us, why not have Lydia Deljaj, our resident hair and makeup expert, create a couple NYE styles for us?! And that way, we can share her amazing tutorials with you 🙂 Take it away, Lydia!
If you’ve been following our Holiday Beauty Guides, you know that for Mioara I created a relaxed Boho Braid ponytail which is perfect for medium to long hair. For Amity, I wanted to do something on the other end of the spectrum for short to medium hair, so I gave her classic pin-up hair.
To start, I added Luxy Hair clip-in hair extensions to add fullness and volume to Amity’s hair. We added balayage highlights to her hair a couple weeks ago and her “Mocha Brown – 1C” clip-in extension still match seamlessly. When I chopped the length of Amity’s hair earlier this year, we trimmed her extensions too, since she mainly uses them for fullness, not length. This is a great tip if you’re going short yet still want to use extensions for volume!
After the clip-in hair extensions were placed, I took horizontal one inch sections from the bottom, lifted up and slightly teased to create volume before curling under with a one-inch barrel curling iron. Then I set the curls by pinning each roll with pin curl clips (I typically use the Double Prong Curl Clips from Sally Beauty Supply).
After curling and pinning the whole head, let the curls sit for 10 minutes to cool. Pro tip: If you’re rushing to make it to the party before the ball drops, this is a great time to get dressed! After the curls have set, remove all the pin curl clips and brush hair down and towards the face to shape into a wave. Use your fingers s to mold the curls into waves.
If you have bangs like Amity, spray with hairspray while brushing upwards to create texture and lift in the front. Then create a “C” behind both ears and pin into place to exaggerate the curve.
Spray into place and voilà, you have a clean polished look for New Year’s Eve (or any other night you feel like a classic style)!
