CUPCAKES, COFFEE & CREATIVE STYLING

Last week, 5 minutes before I was supposed to meet Mioara for cupcakes and coffee, I experienced a major Petite Clothing Crisis. What’s a PCC, you might ask? A PCC occurs when a petite person (like me!) has envisioned an outfit in her head but then when she goes to put it on, it is all types of wrong. Common crisis scenarios include body con dresses fitting like potato sacks, shoulder pads falling to your elbows, sleeve lengths that are closer to inseam measurements, you get the idea. Most of these crises can be easily solved with safety pins or rolling up cuffs, but every now and then, a crisis comes around that requires some creative styling.

My PCC that afternoon was one of the latter nature – it was a tank top that couldn’t be pinned, tucked, or cuffed. But I reeaally wanted to make it work. It was finally the first day Michigan had seen sun since, I don’t know, October, so I was dying to finally put some spring colors together. But when I put on the tank top, “flattering” was the last word that came to mind. I tried belting it, tucking it into a skirt, layering it – nothing was working. And then in a moment of pure brilliance, I took off the tank top, turned it around, and put it on backwards. Instead of zipping it up all the way, I played around with a Mr. Rogers style half-zip, and voilà, it worked!

In wardrobe styling, as with most things in life, sometimes you just need a new perspective! By quickly turning this tank top into a vest, I was able to actually turn it into a versatile piece in my wardrobe (true to the its namesake, the Versatile Vida Tank).

Now, let’s focus on something more important, the cupcakes. OMG the cupcakes! If you live in the metro-Detroit area, you need to swing by Love & Buttercream in Royal Oak (13 and Crooks) and indulge in their always changing selection of sweets. It’s such a cute bakery with the nicest staff – they were so welcoming when we took over their shop for a couple hours!
